28 barangays received Php 250,000 cash aid in Taguig City amid ECQ

Manila, Philippines — Taguig City Mayor Lino Cayetano has distributed to 28 barangays in Taguig City a cash aid of Php 250,000 during the entire period of Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ).

Each of the 28 barangays will receive Php 250,000 financial cash aid to help and support their constituents during the period of ECQ lockdown which the barangays could use to purchase more food packs.

“The barangay assistance is apart from the almost 300,000 relief packs being distributed by the city to its citizens. The food packs contain rice, canned goods, coffee, energy drinks, and instant noodles,” Mayor Cayetano said in a statement.

“We have allotted for all Taguig families, regardless of economic standing to receive food packs from the local government,” he added.

According to the Taguig City government, around 210,000 families had already received their food packs as of August 8.

In addition to the city aid and food packs, the national government has also provided the monetary assistance for which Taguig City government has established preparations for distribution.

The city administration provides 30,000 food packages every day. Each meal package will last three to four days for a household of five. Rice, canned goods, coffee, energy drinks, and fast noodles are all part of the package.

Meanwhile, the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) has already issued and disburse the Php 10.89 billion financial aids or ayuda to LGUs in the National Capital Region (NCR)/Metro Manila that are currently under Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) for two weeks.

To quote from DBM;

“Pursuant to Inter-Agency Task Force on the Management of Emerging Infectious Disease (IATF-MEID) Resolution No. 130-A dated 29 July 2021, the National Capital Region (NCR) was placed under Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) form August 6 to 20, 2021.”

“As approved by the Office of the President per Memorandum dated August 3, 2021, financial assistance shall be released to cities and municipalities in NCR, chargeable against the savings generated pursuant to Administrative Order No. 41.”

ECQ Cash Aid Distribution

As per Metro Manila Council Chairman, Mayor Edwin Olivares, starting August 11, 2021, the LGUs will start distributing the cash aids to most qualified recipients.

To qoute;

“Napag-usapan namin na lahat ng syudad sa Metro Manila, sa Miyerkules magsisimula lahat. Simultaneously lahat. Magsisimula ang pagbibigay ng financial assistance sa lahat ng mga residente na affected ng ECQ”

“Lahat po ‘yan. Simultaneously ‘yung labing-anim na siyudad at isang munisipyo. Miyerkules ng umaga mag-uumpisa lahat”

The distribution of the cash aids will be done through face to face or through electronic wallet. Each recipients will have the opportunity to receive a minimum of Php 1,000 to a maximum of Php 4,000 cash aid depending on the evaluation of the applicant.

Placing NCR under ECQ

In order to prevent the spread of the extremely infectious Delta Covid-19 strain, NCR was placed under Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) starting August 6 to August 20, 2021.
