MANILA, Philippines – Following the clinch of Hidilyn Diaz of Gold medal in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, netizens are asking if she will get the 30 million pesos reward.
Hidilyn won the Gold medal in the Women’s 55kg Weightlifting on Monday night, July 26, 2021.

30 Million Pesos Reward
Hidilyn is expected to take home an almost 30 Million dollar combined reward from the R.A. No. 10699 signed by the late President Benigno S. Aquino III in 2015 saying that a gold medalist is entitled to 10 million pesos reward, and the pledges of the same amount from business tycoons Ramon S. Ang, head of San Miguel Corporation and Manuel V. Pangilinan through the MVP Sports Foundation.
These businessmen said that they will match the rewards set forth by the law for Olympic medalist.
To quote from Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) President Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino during the Sportswriters Association Forum webcast on July 13, 2021,
“Now, RSA is giving the same amount,” shared Tolentino. “I expect more to come once the gold is delivered. It may even reach P50 million.”
Meanwhile, the law also said that the silver medalist(s) will have a reward of P5 Million while P2 Million for bronze winners.
Diaz has also won silver medal during the Rio 2016 olympics.
