BMI criteria for PNP promotion was put on hold

MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine National Police (PNP) declared on Tuesday, July 13 that the use of body mass index (BMI) as a prerequisite for police promotion has been suspended.

In a statement, PNP chief Gen. Guillermo Eleazar stated that he has already endorsed the recommendation to suspend the implementation of PNP Memorandum Circular 2020-029 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

“I have already approved the recommendation to suspend the implementation of the PNP Memorandum Circular 2020-029 which requires compliance with the Body Mass Index, or BMI, in our promotion system,”

The workload balance of their workers was one of the elements that influenced their decision. He went on to say that the decision is only temporary and that it may change if things return to normal.

“In approving this, we took into consideration the balance between the workload of all our personnel in this time of pandemic and the need for them to comply with this Memorandum Circular just to be promoted,” Eleazar explained.
