DOH: 2M AstraZeneca Covid-19 will be usedbefore the expiration date

Manila, Philippines – The Department of Health (DOH) through Myrna Cabotaje (Undersecretary) said that 2 million AstraZeneca Covid-19 will be used before its expiration date on June 30 and July 31.

“We are happy to note na sa 2 million, naka-500,000 na tayo isa, dalawang linggo pa lang,” Usec. Cabotaje said in an interview on Dobol B TV.

Cabotaje is also the chair for the National COVID-19 Vaccination Operation Center.

So, we will be reaching 1 million by end of May. So another million. Mauubos natin ito. We are confident na mauubos natin. Nai-distribute na natin sa buong Pilipinas ‘yan at humihingi pa sila ng additional, wala na tayong maibigay

Usec. Myrna Cabotaje and Dr. Lulu Bravo of UP College of Medicine, a vaccine trialist, made the assurance that the two million doses of AstraZeneca vaccine donated by global aid facility COVAX will be distributed before June and July. These vaccines have an expiration dates of June 30 and July 31, 2021.

“Vaccines all have very short shelf life. So kahit ano pang vaccine ang darating, we will expect na hindi ganoon katagal iyong kanilang shelf life. But ang ina-assure ng ating Philippine FDA, may stability data iyan. So ibig sabihin, even before the expiry hanggang sa expiry date ay stable pa rin iyong ating vaccine,” Usec. Cabotaje said during the day’s Laging Handa briefing.

As of May 18, 2021, the Philippine government has administered a total of 3,299,470 doses of vaccines.

The Philippine government has distributed at least 7,671,120 doses of COVID vaccines. Each person need 2 doses of COVID-19 vaccine.

The target numbers of full vaccination by the end of the year are at least 70 million individuals.
