Manila, Philippines – President Rodrigo Roa Duterte receives his first dose of COVID-19 vaccine from China’s Sinopharm on Monday, May 3, 2021, alongside Senator Bong Go, his long time aide.
In a Facebook live of Senator Bong Go, the President said that he was expecting the COVID-19 vaccination a long time ago.
To quote from his statement,
“I feel good and I have been expecting this shot, vaccination a long time ago,”
Duterte added that his doctors took a long time to make an assessment for the suitable vaccine for him before Sinopharm was chosen.
In an online briefing of Presidential Spokesperson, Harry Roque on March 2, he said that the President will wait for the Sinopharm Covid-19 vaccines owned by China to secure an Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) before receiving its vaccines.
To quote from Secretary Harry Roque,
Mag-aantay po si Presidente ng EUA dahil nabalita ko nga po kahapon na meron na pong nag-apply for the EUA of Sinopharm. So magaantay na lang siya ng approval ng Sinopharm
As of today, The Sinopharm’s EUA application remains pending before the FDA.
