Duterte will give additional incentives to Tokyo Olympic Boxer medalists and other Olympians

MANILA, Philippines — President Rodrigo Duterte promised on Monday to provide additional monetary incentives to all three members of the Philippine boxing squads for giving pride in the Philippines at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

In line with the successful campaign in Tokyo Olympic Games, President Duterte said that these incentives are in addition to Php 5 million for the Olympic silver medalist and Php 2 million for the bronze medalist.

“I’d like to announce that in addition to what the law gives you, the PHP5 million silver medalist and the bronze medalist, PHP2 million. My office, the Office of the President will grant additional cash incentives to our athletes in the Tokyo Olympics,”

The Office of the President will award Carlo Paalam and Nesthy Petacio, who won silver medals in men’s flyweight and women’s featherweight, respectively, an additional monetary incentive of Php 2 million each.

On the other hand, the President will also award Php 1 million to Eumir Marcial, who bagged a bronze medal in the middleweight division.

In addition to the cash rewards given by the Office of the President, Duterte also promised that the three Filipino boxers will also receive the order of Lapu-Lapu medal.

Meanwhile, in line with the cash rewards to three Filipino boxers who bagged medals in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, all other Filipino Olympians will receive Php 200,000 each including Irish Magno who did not win a medal during a fight with Jutamas Jitpong of Thailand in the women’s flyweight.

“I don’t care about winning and that is why they will receive PHP200,000, all of you, all other Olympians would receive from my office,” President Duterte said.

“Kung medyo tingin ninyo na kulang pa, pakialam lang at sabihin at dagdagan pa natin ng dagdag kung tingin ninyo kulang. Kulang pa ba? Well, okay, that is all the money we can afford actually,” he added.

It is “no coincidence,” according to Palace, that the Philippines had its greatest Olympic performance during the Duterte administration.
