Why is the #DuterteTraydor trending in Twitter?

MANILA, Philippines – The term #DuterteTraydor is trending in twitter with more than 19,000 tweets as of this writing. This is due to his statement about not going to war with China amid continuing illegal activities in the West Philippine Sea.

He likewise said that China is a “good friend”. He mentioned these statements during a televised address aired on April 28, 2021.

To quote,

I’m stating it for the record, We do not want war with China. China is a good friend. Mayroong tayong utang na loob na marami pati yung bakuna natin. So China, let it be known, is a good friend. And we do not want trouble with them, especially a war. But there are things which are not really subject to compromise.

The President also gave the public the assurance of not giving up the sovereignty territory of the country. He guaranteed that he would not bargain the West Philippines Sea (WPS) over China. President Duterte likewise blamed the previous administration for its lack of action over the West Philippine Sea.

To quote,

Alam mo isang tanong lang ako kay Carpio at kay Albert, Kung bright kayo, Bakit nawala ang West Philippine Sea sa atin. Panahon niyo yan eh. Panahon niyo yan na talagang nandiyan kayo sa pwesto.. Ngayong China na ang naghawak doon, ako yung niluluslos ninyong gumawa ng paraan…

Duterte said he knew the situation over West Philippine Sea get worse even before he assumed his Presidency in 2016. He also pointed that with arbitral ruling, the WPS is ours.

On 2016, the claims over the West Philippine Sea won its petition over China. The Arbitral Tribunal Court invalidate the claims over all entire sea.

On the other hand, the National Task Force (NTF) continues to patrol the West Philippines Sea (WPS) in relation to exercising the sovereign rights under the Philippine Constitution and International Law.
