Guillermo Eleazar is the newly-appointed PNP Chief

MANILA, Philippines – President Rodrigo Roa Duterte has picked Lt. Gen. Guillermo Eleazar as the new Chief of Philippine National Police (PNP). Malacañang and the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Eduardo Año confirmed on Wednesday, May 5, 2021.

Lt. Gen. Guillermo Eleazar serves as the 6th PNP chief under Duterte administration. Eleazar will replace the current PNP Chief Gen. Debold Sinas who will reach the mandatory retirement on May 8. After the long journey of his service, he was finally named as the next highest ranking officer among the 200,000-strong Police force.

In a short statement from the Office of the Presidential Spokesperson, it says that the track record of General Eleazar is of high integrity and dedication and therefore very well suited in the position. To quote,

Gen. Eleazar’s track record of professionalism, dedication, and integrity speaks for itself. We are therefore confident that he will continue the reform initiatives of his predecessors and lead the police organization to greater heights. All the best to Gen. Eleazar as the new PNP Chief.

In a separate statement from the DILG Secretary Eduardo Año, he said that the recommendation of the new PNP chief was based on seniority, merit, service reputation and competence to lead the police force.

Through a Napolcom resolution, Eleazar was recommended to be the next PNP chief based on seniority, merit, service reputation, and competence to lead the police force.

I welcome the appointment Police Lieutenant General Eleazar who is very qualified for the job. I expect PLt. Gen. Eleazar to lead the entire PNP organization to greater heights in serving and protecting our people, implementing quarantine protocols and minimum health standards, and promoting law and order during this challenging period in our nation’s history

Lt. Gen. Eleazar likewise thanked the commander-in-chief, President Duterte for choosing him as a new PNP Chief. To quote,

I express my sincerest gratitude to our commander-in-chief, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, for choosing me to be among the instruments of his genuine intention of having a well-disciplined and professional police force that could always be banked on in enforcing the law and in serving and protecting the Filipino people.

DILG Secretary Año will lead the PNP turnover ceremonies on Friday, May 7, 2021.

Lt. Gen. Eleazar has only 6 months to serve as PNP Chief before he reach the mandatory age retirement on November 2021.

Guillermo Lorenzo Tolentino Eleazar was born on November 13, 1965 in Tagkawayan, Quezon. His career in serving the country as PNP started in 1987.
