MECQ in Davao City and GCQ in GenSan City beginning June 5, 2021

Manila, Philippines – The Malacañang announced on Friday that Davao City will be placed under stricter Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ) classification for two weeks while General Santos (GenSan) City will be placed General Community Quarantine (GCQ) starting June 5, 2021.

Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said that the placement of the two areas is based on the appeals of the local government officials from Davao City and General Santos City to imposed stricter quarantine protocols due to increasing number of covid-19 cases in both localities.

The Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) approved the proposal of the government officials with regards on the appeals of upgrading the quarantine status of the Davao City from GCQ to MECQ and to the city of Gensan from MGCQ to GCQ to imposed more stricter quarantine protocols.

“The Inter-Agency Task Force on Thursday, June 3, 2021, approved to place Davao City under Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine beginning June 5 until June 20, 2021. The IATF likewise approved the General Community Quarantine status of General Santos City starting June 5 until June 30, 2021,” Secretary Harry Roque said in a press statement.

Updates on Covid-19 in Davao City and General Santos City

An increasing number of Covid-19 infections was observed in Davao City for the month of May. As per DOH Covid-19 tracker, Davao City has been recorded 1,531 active cases as of June 03. 16,197 is the total recoveries with 18,363 total cases in the City. Meanwhile, 635 is the total fatalities in the City.

The total cases in the City of GenSan is now at 4,055, of these, 569 is reported active cases in the city and 3,369 has been recorded total recoveries. Meanwhile, 117 has been reported total fatalities in the City.

COVID-19 Latest Updates in the Philippines as of June 04, 2021

The number of active cases in the Philippines is now at 60,794 with 7,450 reported new cases as of June 04.

As announced by the DOH, there were 2,382 new recoveries giving the total number of recoveries to 1,173,006.
