MECQ in Iloilo City until May 31, 2021

MANILA, Philippines – The Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) through the Resolution No. 116-C has placed the Iloilo City under Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ) starting Sunday, May 23 until May 31 due to continuous increase in Covid-19 infections .

“This will help us in lowering of our cases and also in our contact tracing efforts. During this time please go out only when necessary and make sure to follow minimum health protocols,” Mayor Jerry Treñas of Iloilo City said in a Facebook post.

Mayor Jerry Treñas ordered the closure of the City Hall, malls and other business establishments to avoid people to go out. 

As per DOH tracker, the City of Iloilo has now a total of 7,390 total cases from which 686 were recorded active cases as of Saturday, May 22, 2021.

The extension of the MECQ also include the City of Santiago, Quirino, CAR: Ifugao, and R9: Zamboanga City until 31 of May.

COVID-19 Updates as of May 22, 2021

As per DOH tracker, there were 6,831 new recorded cases in the country. The total active cases in the Philippines ballooned to 54,326.

Basic Covid-19 Health Protocols

The following basic COVID-19 health guidelines should always be observed at all times to prevent the spread of the infection:

  • Wearing of face mask and face shield
  • Social distancing
  • Avoid crowded areas
  • Regular washing of hands with soap and water
  • Use of sanitizers and alcohol

Will the MECQ be extended on June 2021?

This is yet to be announced by the Malacañang Palace. Meanwhile, from MECQ, the NCR plus bubble has been placed to GCQ with heightened restriction with the strong implementation and guidelines by the IATF.
