Moderna COVID-19 vaccine is “highly effective” in age 12-17

Manila, Philippines – The United States (US) biotech firm Moderna said on Tuesday that mRNA -1273 COVID-19 vaccine is “highly effective” in age 12-17 as data shown in their trials and the company would seek regulators’ approval by month of June.

“We are encouraged that mRNA-1273 was highly effective at preventing Covid-19 in adolescents,” CEO Stephane Bancel said in a statement.

“We will submit these results to the US FDA and regulators globally in early June and request authorization.” she added.

US bioNtech firm Moderna said two-thirds from 3,732 adolescents aged 12 to 17 received their second dose of vaccines, while the rest of the study enrolled received placebo.

After the study, adolescents who received their second dose reveal that no cases of symptomatic COVID-19 were observed.

Meanwhile, in placebo, 4 cases of asymptomatic COVID-19 were observed which means that the shots were 100% effective.

Most of the side effects observed were mild or moderate. Part of which include injection site pain, muscle ache, headache, fatigue, and chills.
