PAGASA Weather Update December 26, 2022: Shear Line Affecting Visayas and Northeast Monsoon Affecting Luzon

MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) releases the latest weather update.

Forecast Weather Conditions

PAGASA states that there aren’t any Low-Pressure Areas and Tropical Cyclones within and outside the Philippine Area of Responsibilities. However, heavy rains and thunderstorms are still present in the country due to the Shear Line and the Northeast Monsoon.

The Shear Line will affect Northern Mindanao, Zamboanga Peninsula. Basilan, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, Palawan, and the rest of Visayas and Caraga, causing “cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms.” It will also affect Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, Aurora, Quezon, and Bicol Region, bringing “Cloudy skies with rains.” All the residents from these areas should prepare for “possible flash floods or landslides due to moderate to, at times, heavy rains.

The Northeast Monsoon affecting Luzon will bring varying effects to the areas. Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, Aurora, Quezon, and Bicol Region will experience “cloudy skies with rains,” bringing “possible flash floods or landslides due to moderate to, at times, heavy rains.” On the other hand, Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon will experience “partly cloudy to cloudy skies with light rains,” bringing “no significant impact.

The rest of Mindanao will have “partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms” due to localized thunderstorms. This weather condition will also cause “possible flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms.

Wind and Coastal Water Conditions

Luzon, Visayas, and the eastern section of Mindanao will experience moderate to strong winds moving to the northeast. The condition of its coastal water will remain moderate to rough (2.5 to 5.0 meters).

The rest of Mindanao can expect light to moderate winds, moving from the northeast to the north, with slight to moderate coastal water conditions (0.6 to 2.5 meters).
