PAGASA Weather Update January 18, 2023: Shear Line Affecting the Eastern Sections of Luzon and Visayas

MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) releases the latest weather update.

Forecast Weather Conditions

There is currently no Tropical Cyclone within and outside the country. However, most of the weather conditions today will involve rainshowers and thunderstorms. In response, residents should practice caution in case such calamities occur.

Metro Manila, CALABARZON, Bicol Region, Nueva Ecija, Bulacan, and Aurora will have “cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms” due to the Shear Line. This weather condition will cause “possible flooding or landslides due to moderate to heavy rains.”

The Northeast Monsoon will continue to affect parts of Luzon and bring varying effects depending on the areas. For instance, Apayao and Cagayan Valley will have “cloudy skies with rains,” bringing “possible flooding or landslides due to moderate to, at times, heavy rains.” On the other hand, the rest of Luzon will only experience “partly cloudy to cloudy skies with light rains,” bringing “no significant impact” on the land area.

As for the rest of the country, these areas will experience “partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms” due to localized thunderstorms. This weather condition may also cause “possible flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms.”

Wind and Coastal Water Conditions

Northern Luzon and the eastern sections of Central and Southern Luzon will experience strong winds moving to the northeast. The condition of its coastal water will also be rough (2.8 to 4.0 meters).

The rest of Luzon and Visayas can expect moderate to strong winds, moving from the northeast to the east, with moderate to rough coastal water conditions (1.2 to 2.8 meters).

Mindanao will have slight to moderate wind conditions, and their direction will be from northeast to north. These areas can expect light to moderate coastal water conditions (0.6 to 2.5 meters).
