PhiVolcs Tsunami Information July 29, 2021: Sea-Level Change Monitoring

MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) has issued a Tsunami Information No. 1 captioned as “Sea-Level Change Monitoring” on July 29, 2021 around 4:00 PM.

This is after a magnitude 8.1 earthquake has struck 60 Miles Se of Chignik, Alaska on July 29, 2021 at 2:15 PM.

PhiVolcs said that the approximate distance of the event from Manila, Philippines is 8,117 kilometers.

Tsunami Information No.1
Date and Time: 29 Jul 2021 – 02:15 PM
Magnitude = 8.1
Depth = 018 kilometers
Location = 55.5°N,157.9°W – 60 Miles Se Of Chignik, Alaska

As per evaluation of PhiVolcs, an earthquake of this magnitude has the potential of destructive tsunami and can strike coastlines in the region near the epicenter within minutes to hours.

Evacuation

PhiVolcs said that as of the moment, no evacuation is in place but coastal communities of the following provinces are advised to wait and watch.
