MANILA, Philippines – In a Facebook post dated May 18, 2021, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said that there are now 62 deaths in the department due to COVID-19.
The 62nd fatality is a 48 year old Police Lieutenant and designated as the Deputy Chief of Police in one of the municipalities of Tarlac.
According on the reported summited by the PNP Health Service to the PNP Chief, the cop was tested positive in Covid-19 and was immediately brought to the quarantine facility on May 5, 2021.
He was then admitted on May 10 to the nearest hospital due to difficulty of breathing.
Last Sunday, May 16, 2021, the cop was pronounced dead by his attending physician due to Pneumonia.
As of May 18 2021, there were 105 new reported additional cases of Covid-19 in PNP department bringing the total number of cases to 22207. 128 were recorded new recoveries. Complete details are presented in the table below.

The number of active cases in the Philippines has continuously went down to 52,291 with only 4,487 new recorded cases on Tuesday, May 18, the lowest recorded active and new cases since March 2021.

DOH likewise reminded the public to practice the use of protective measures such as wearing mask and wearing face shield.
