MANILA, Philippines – President Rodrigo Duterte has announced that his daughter, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte, will seek the highest government positions alongside Sen. Christopher “Bong” Go in the 2022 national elections.
After Senator Bong Go submitted his certificate of candidacy for Vice President on Saturday, October 2, Duterte confirmed the tandem of the two.
In an interview posted by Vivian Velez, the reporter clarified to the president the possible run of Mayor Sarah Duterte for President in the 2022 national election.
“Sara-Go na ‘yan”, Duterte said.
This is after President Duterte announced his retirement from Politics and has withdrawn his candidacy for Vice-President in Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) for the 2022 national election.
President Duterte’s latest announcement came despite the Davao mayor Sarah Duterte repeatedly denied the proposals of his father for running president.
When a reporter asked if Sarah will run for president, Duterte said, “Yes,” and that the decision had already been finalized.
“Actually, hindi kami nag-uusap ng politika ever since. Ever since we never talked about politics. I would say that I did that for the better,” Duterte said during the interview.
He doesn’t know when his daughter would declare her candidacy for president, he added.
The deadline for the submission of the Certificate of Candidacy (COC) is until October 8, and political parties can change their candidates until November 15.
