Rainy Season 2021 started: PAGASA

Manila, Philippines – The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) announces on Friday the start of rainy season on the western section of the Philippines after a widespread rainfall due to tropical cyclone Dante gives off heavy rains in parts of the country.

“The passage of Tropical Storm Dante and the occurrence of widespread rainfall monitored by PAGASA in the last five days for areas under Type I climate confirm the onset of the rainy season,” PAG-ASA said on a press statement.

According to PAG-ASA, the intermittent rains brought by the southwest monsoon or HABAGAT will continue to affect the NCR and the western portions of the country.

“The probability of near to above normal rainfall conditions is high in the next two months (June-July). However, breaks in rainfall events (also known as monsoon breaks), which can last for several days or weeks, may still occur,” PAG-ASA added.

“PAGASA will continue to closely monitor the situation and updates/advisories shall be issued as appropriate. The public and all concerned agencies are advised to take precautionary measures against the impacts of the rainy season,” PAG-ASA said.

There are two criteria to declare rainy day seasons, the first one is thru the recording of 25 millimeters or more of rainfall for three (3) consecutive days while the second criteria is through the prevalence of southwest monsoon.

Meanwhile, no weather disturbance is expected to affect and enter within the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) in the next three to five days.
