Sara and Rodrigo Duterte ranked first in Pulse Asia’s 2022 national elections

MANILA, Philippines – President Rodrigo Duterte and his daughter Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio came out on top in the latest Pulse Asia poll on Filipinos’ presidential and vice-presidential picks for the 22 national elections.

Davao Mayor Sara “Inday” Duterte, who has previously shown interest in running for president, received 28% of the vote, followed by Manila Mayor Isko Moreno 14% and Bongbong Marcos with 13% of the survey respondents.

In terms of Filipinos’ second presidential preference in the upcoming elections, Duterte-Carpio received 16%, which is still the highest among the presidential candidate. Poe, Marcos, Pacquiao, and Go were the next highest in the survey.

According to Pulse Asia, 16% of individuals in Class ABC are unlikely to vote for any presidential candidate.

“As for those in the rest of Luzon, basically the same percentages either show support for former Senator Marcos (18 percent), Manila Mayor Domagoso (15 percent), Davao City Mayor Duterte (13 percent), or Senator Poe (12 percent) or have not yet chosen their presidential bet for the May 2022 elections/refuse to name their favored candidate for the post/still do not have a preferred presidential candidate (13 percent),” Pulse Asia said.

According to Pulse Asia, if the first pick for president did not run in May 2022, almost the same percentage of Filipino adults would vote for Mayor Duterte (16%), Poe (13%), Marcos (13%), or Pacquiao (12%).

President Duterte is the top choice for Vice President.

Meanwhile, President Duterte and Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso are very tight in the vice-presidential election, with 18 percent and 14 percent, respectively.

Second position was shared by Senate President Vicente Sotto III (10%), Marcos (10%), Pacquiao (9%), Taguig City-Pateros Rep. Alan Peter Cayetano (8%), and Sorsogon Gov. Francis Escudero (7%).

The remaining 6% of Filipino adults are undecided about who to vote for as vice president and have declined to nominate a candidate, or are not inclined to support anyone for the position.

According to Pulse Asia, over a third of Filipinos in Mindanao (35%) voiced support for President Duterte’s probable vice-presidential bid.

“If their first pick for vice president withdraws from the next national elections, nearly the same percentages of Filipino adults would choose Senator Pacquiao (13%), former Senator Marcos (13%), Manila Mayor Domagoso (11%), Senate President Sotto (11%) or Senator Go (11%) instead (9 percent)”, Pulse Asia said.
