Atty Reynold Munsayac, speaking on behalf of Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte, acknowledges the filing of the COC for vice president, and adds that additional inquiries concerning substitution would be answered “in due time.”
The Comelec allows candidates to be substitutes until Nov. 15. The Comelec will accept a substitute if a candidate dies, withdraws, or is disqualified by the poll body.
After withdrawing her reelection bid and resigning from the regional party Hugpong ng Pagbabago, Sara joined the national party Lakas-CMD, as only members of a national party are eligible to run for a national position.
Senator Bong Go, Senator Tito Sotto, Senator Kiko Pangilinan, former congressman Walden Bello, and Dr. Willie Ong are among the vice-presidential candidates for the 2022 national elections.
In 2010, Sara Duterte became the first female mayor of Davao City. After her father dropped his reelection bid for mayor and to run for president in 2016, she ran for mayor again as a substitute candidate in 2015. Prior to entering politics, she studied law.
