MANILA, Philippines – Senator Leila de Lima, who is currently detained at the Philippine National Police (PNP) Custodial Center at Camp Crame in Quezon City since February 2017, has announced on Wednesday, July 21 that she will run for reelection in the 2022 national elections.
Leila Delima stated that at the end of Duterte’s administration, she will demand an accounting for President Duterte’s promises that have yet to be fulfilled.
Leila said.
“Tatakbo akong muli.
The Palace stated they would respect Senator Leila de Lima’s right to run for reelection in the 2022 national elections.
If she will run, that’s her right, so long as she is not convicted with finality. I hope she will not be convicted with finality before the elections),” Secretary Harry Roque said.
Roque to De Lima
Addressing in an open letter to Pres. Duterte’s sixth and last State of the Nation Address (SONA), which will be delivered on July 26, De Lima said her unjust detention for the last four years has strengthened her resolve to fight her advocacies. De Lima also commends that she was a victim of political persecution.
De Lima, on the other hand, is not a victim of political persecution, she is being tried for politically related offenses. Secretary Roque said.
“Unang-una, wala pong political prosecution. Alam naman ni Leila De Lima bilang abogado that she is not accused of politically related crimes. Akusado po siya because of the heinous crime of drug trading, drug pushing and drug trading”
