Tokyo Olympics: Carlo Paalam, one win away to Gold

MANILA, Philippines – Carlo Paalam, a Filipino boxer, qualified for the quarterfinals of the men’s flyweight event at the Tokyo Olympics on Saturday, putting him one win away from a medal.

Following a three-round victory against Mohamed Flissi of Algeria, Zoirov will face Carlo Paalam of the Philippines, who continues the Philippines’ impressive run.

Paalam won 30-27 on all five scorecards, with the final results reflecting his cleaner punching and faster hand speed.

The quarter finals will be held on August 3, 2021 at Kokugikan Arena.

Philippines on winning Gold

Philippines clinched it first Gold medal in history of Olympics through Hidilyn Diaz last Monday, July 26.

Hidilyn won the women’s 55-kg weightlifting event of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Diaz won the gold medal with a total score of 224, beating China’s Liao Qiuyun at the Tokyo International Forum.

If Carlo wins the flyweight events, he will become the country’s second gold medalist at the Tokyo Olympics after nearly 100 years of trying to reach the top spots.
