MANILA, Philippines – After making a fight against his opponent in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics held at Kokugikan Arena on Sunday, August 1, Eumir Marcial has ensured the Philippines of another medal.
Eumir Marcial knocked out Armenian Arman Darchinyan in the first round to win a spot in the men’s middleweight semifinals at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, ensuring at least a bronze medal.
The Filipino boxer knocked out his opponents in the first round of the quarter-finals contest in just 2 minutes and 11 seconds.
“I didn’t expect I would finish the fight in the first round because I know he’s a good boxer, a strong boxer. That’s boxing, you know? You don’t expect the punch,” Eumir said.
Marcial will compete on Thursday, August 5, and if he wins his semifinal bout against the European, reigning champion Oleksandr Khyzhniak of Ukraine, he would bring the Philippines another gold medal match.
