Manila, Philippines – Vice President Leni Robredo on Sunday reiterated that she’s “still open” for running presidency in national elections. This is contrary to what law maker said that VP Leni is pursuing gubernatorial position in Camarines Sur in 2022 election.
VP Leni considered many things whether to pursue or not in 2022 presidency but she assured that her decision would be announced at the right time.
“Sa gitna ng maraming haka haka, uulitin ko lang ang ilang beses ko na ring sinabi: Wala pang desisyon na ako’y tatakbong gobernador. Nananatili akong bukas na maging kandidato sa pagka Pangulo.” VP Leni said on a Facebook post.
“Maraming konsiderasyon ang isinasaalang alang pero siguradong mag dedesisyon ako sa tamang panahon. Sinisiguro ko sa lahat na ipapaalam ko kung may narating nang desisyon.” VP added.
Former Congressman Rolando Andaya Jr. of Camarines Sur disclosed on Thursday, June 3 that VP Leni is set to run for gubernatorial position in Camarines Sur in the 2022 elections.
“Dun lang napag-uusapan naming, we never talked about politics outside of Camarines Sur. And she has made it clear that, ‘Nonoy, all the conditions you’ve given me, I have followed. And just trust me that I will prove it next election by running for governor,” Andaya said.
In an tv interview with TV5 on Thursday, June 3, former representative of Camarines Sur Andaya said that VP Leni is ready of gubernatorial race in 2022 is already a done deal. He also added that VP Leni has already changed her address from Naga City to Magarao.
“I talked to her directly. I don’t deal with her assistant… Residents of that town vote for our governor,” he said.
“The first thing she has to do is to transfer her residency from Naga City to another town because Naga is an independent (chartered) city and she cannot run for governor there. She has shown us her national ID and she’s now a resident of Magarao,” he added.
Last month, May 2021, former senator Antonio Trillanes IV announced that VP Leni is preparing for the gubernatorial race in Camarines Sur and then later announced that he is seeking for the Presidential position in 2022 elections.
“In view of VP Leni’s preparations to run for Governor of Camarines Sur in 2022, I, together with the Magdalo group, have decided to convey to the 1SAMBAYAN Coalition to change my status from being an alternate candidate (to VP Leni) to being a principal candidate for President to vie for the Coalition’s nomination”, Trillanes said on a Twitter post.

But according to the Office of the Vice President (OVP) Spokesperson Barry Gutierrez, VP Leni Robredo is focused on helping the Filipino people through the COVID-19 crisis and not for the upcoming 2022 elections.
“As VP Leni has repeatedly stated, her focus remains on helping our fellow Filipinos through the Covid-19 crisis, VP Leni has not made a decision regarding the 2022 elections, and there is absolutely no truth to the claim that she is making ‘preparations’ to run for Governor of Camarines Sur,” Gutierrez said.
“This is not a time for politicking, but for working for the people’s welfare. She remains open to all options, including a possible candidacy for president, and at the appropriate time, she will personally convey her decision on this matter,” Gutierrez added.
Former House speaker Alan Peter Cayetano said that he is also considering for the 2022 national election for Presidency.
“I am seriously considering running for president and other positions and I am seriously praying and discerning about it,” he said.
“The presidency is a serious matter and unlike any other time in the Philippines there are so many challenges and problems. So I hope we set aside the usual gimmick of ‘pabebe’ or ‘pakipot’ politics because we really have to know the character of candidates, their vision, track record and promises. This is a serious topic,” he added.
Aside from these three (3) names, VP Leni Robredo, former senator Antonio Trillianes and Rep. Allan Peter Cayetano, many names have been risen up as potential candidates for the 2022 national election pursuing the presidency position including Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte, Senator Manny Pacquiao, Sen. Bong Go, Manila Mayor Isko Moreno and former senator Bongbong Marcos Jr.
