MANILA, Philippines – Following Secretary Panelo’s proposal to abolish the board/ licensure exams, Vice President Leni Robredo aired her side saying that she is against the idea and instead overhaul the whole education system if this is the plan.
To quote from her statements in her radio show,
(The exams, it is not that it has no purpose. It’s purpose is to test if you pass the standards of your profession. It can’t be scrapped.)
(Example, you don’t want to have professional exams later on, there is a need to overhaul the whole education system)
Labor Secretary Silvestro Bello III earlier said that taking and passing board exams specially for nurses should no longer be needed and will thereby recommend to Congress the removal of professional exams altogether.
“So sabi ko pag-aralan na ‘yan and then we can recommend to Congress na tanggalin na ‘yung mga exam exam na ‘yan.
The Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) is in charge of regulating lots of professionals and administering respective board licensure exams in the Philippines. Few of those are the Certified Public Accountant licensure exams (CPALE), Licensure exams for Professional Teachers (LET), Nursing Licensure Exam (NLE), Criminology Licensure Exam (CLE), Civil Engineering Exam, among others.
